Why was 748 added?
970 is running out of numbers. The Colorado Public Utilities Commission approved the overlay on November 20, 2023, and said wide use of 748 would likely begin in late 2026.
Who gets a 748 number?
748 numbers are assigned only when all available 970 numbers are used. Existing 970 numbers keep working, and rates and local calling areas don't change.
Does dialing change?
No. Local calls in 970 already use 10 digits. 911 and 988 still work with three digits.
