Where is area code 738?

738 is an overlay on 213 and 323, so it covers the same area: downtown Los Angeles, nearby cities like Glendale, Pasadena, Inglewood, and Beverly Hills, and unincorporated parts of Los Angeles County.

Why was 738 added?

213 and 323 were running short of numbers. The California Public Utilities Commission approved the overlay on March 16, 2023 (Decision 23-03-006).

Who gets a 738 number?

738 numbers are assigned only once the remaining 213 and 323 numbers are used. Existing numbers, call prices, and local calling areas don't change.

Does dialing change?

No. Local calls here already need 1 + area code + number, even within the same area code. 911 and 988 still work with three digits.
