Area code 465
465 is New York City's newest area code. It covers Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, and the Marble Hill section of Manhattan, and went into service on June 18, 2026.
Where is area code 465?
465 is an overlay, so it covers the same area as 718, 347, 929, and 917. Every borough except most of Manhattan, which has its own codes.
- Brooklyn
- Queens
- The Bronx
- Staten Island
- Marble Hill, Manhattan
Why was 465 added?
New telephone numbers are in high demand in the four outer boroughs. New York's Public Service Commission approved 465 as an overlay on January 24, 2025, so the region would not run out.
Who gets a 465 number?
Not everyone, and not right away. 465 numbers go only to new service or additional lines, and only after the remaining 347, 718, 917, and 929 numbers are used up.
Existing numbers keep their area code. Call prices, coverage, and what counts as a local call stay the same.
Does dialing change?
No. Local calls here already need 1 + area code + number, and that stays the same. 911 and 988 still work with three digits. If you have an alarm system or other equipment that dials automatically, make sure it accepts 465 as a valid area code.
