Quick answer

A virtual US phone number looks like an ordinary US number to the people calling or texting you, but you manage it inside an app. HashPhone lets you choose an available number, receive calls and SMS, and keep work or personal conversations away from your main line.

You keep your existing mobile service. HashPhone adds another number on the same iPhone, iPad, or Android device, so there is no SIM card to swap and no second handset to charge.

The app is free to download. A free trial or promotional price may be available depending on your region and eligibility.

What happens when somebody contacts you?

When someone calls your virtual US number, HashPhone delivers the call through the app. When someone sends an SMS, it appears in your HashPhone conversations. Your reply comes from the virtual number, not the number attached to your main SIM.

That separation is useful when one number is for family and close friends while the other is for clients, online contacts, signups, or temporary conversations.

Everyday and work uses

Freelance and client calls

A freelancer can put the HashPhone number on a proposal or invoice and keep the primary number private. A side-business owner can use it for customer appointments and ordinary one-to-one messages.

HashPhone is built for individual communication. It is not intended for automated campaigns, mass messaging, or a shared support team.

Online forms and registrations

A second number can keep your main line away from newsletters, marketplace listings, delivery updates, and services you are trying for the first time. If the service sends a normal SMS, HashPhone can receive it.

Verification messages

HashPhone supports verification-code messages and may have a much better chance than Google Voice in flows where Google Voice is recognized and rejected. The improvement is practical, but not universal.

The sending platform has the final decision. Some banks, government services, social networks, and apps accept only specific number categories or limit how often one number can be used.

How much does a virtual US number cost?

There is no single price that applies to every HashPhone user. App stores localize pricing by country, and promotional offers can change. New or eligible users may see a free trial or an inexpensive introductory period before the standard subscription renews.

Read the confirmation screen before subscribing. It shows the price you pay now, the renewal amount, and the billing period for your account.

What a virtual number does not replace

A HashPhone number is not an emergency line, a mobile data plan, or a promise of anonymous communication. It also cannot force another company to accept the number for identity verification.

If you need a second cellular plan with mobile data, choose an eSIM or carrier line. If you need a practical second number for normal calls, texts, work, and privacy, an app is usually the lighter option.

Before you choose a number

  • Pick an area code your contacts will recognize.
  • Confirm the current trial or promotion in the app.
  • Keep the subscription active if you need to retain the number.
  • Test important verification flows before depending on them.
  • Add non-SMS recovery options to important accounts.
